The specialisation in English Language and Linguistics offers courses on a wide range of topics, covering theoretical, applied, sociolinguistic and historical approaches. You will learn more about how we can analyse the structure and function of the English language, about how and why the English language varies, about why people have different views on what is correct English, and about how and why the English language has changed. You will be able to apply and further refine the linguistic research methods and skills that you have acquired during your BA.
The programme builds on linguistic research carried out at the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL), one of the largest linguistics institutes in the Netherlands, and you will benefit from the expertise of some of continental Europe’s finest English scholars.
