Minors
A minor allows you to develop your knowledge beyond the boundaries of your study programme, or to specialise further in your own field of study. You can follow a minor in Leiden and also in Delft or Rotterdam.
A minor is a cohesive set of courses. Most consist of 15 to 30 credits (ECs) which means you can use your elective credits to follow a minor. In terms of level, minors are most suitable for third-year bachelor’s students.
A minor allows you to broaden your knowledge and skills by looking beyond the boundaries of your own study programme, or to further specialise in your own field of study, for example, in preparation for a master's.

e-ProspectusMinors & Electives @ LUC
A student at LUC can do a Minor in any of the six Majors offered. This entails taking 30 EC worth of courses from the same Major, including at least 10 EC at 300-level. This package of courses is then considered as an LUC Minor.
In addition, while LUC's six internal Minors have now been discontinued, the courses of these former Minors can still be taken as elective courses. These courses cover areas and fields such as Gender Studies, Journalism, Psychology, Philosophy, and several languages.
A student may also enroll in any of the Minor programmes offered by Leiden University. Moreover, it is possible to do an official Minor at a different Dutch university and have it count towards the LUC programme.
Finally, instead of doing a Minor, it is also possible to take 30 EC of electives. This option requires a set of elective courses (30 EC) within the context of the individual study plan. Do note that a maximum of 15 EC of post-first-year 100-level courses may be used towards the 30 EC. The selection of courses should be in consultation with the student’s academic advisor and/or study advisor. Any course of a Major or Minor can be taken as an elective. It's also possible to take an external (i.e. non-LUC) class, but in that case you will need permission from the Board of Examiners to include the course in your programme.
