The role of the Board of Examiners is to ensure that study programmes adhere to their Course and Examination Regulations. The Board of Examiners oversees all tests and examinations within the institute and determines whether students have acquired the knowledge and skills required for the awarding of their degree.

Each institute has a Board of Examiners, the members of which are appointed by the Faculty Board. The Board of Examiners is responsible for the effective organisation and quality assurance of all tests and examinations within the institute. If you would like to request a change to your academic requirements, for example an exemption or extension, it is the Board of Examiners who will make the final decision on your request.

The role of the Board of Examiners is to ensure that study programmes adhere to their Course and Examination Regulations. The Board of Examiners oversees all tests and examinations within the institute and determines whether students have acquired the knowledge and skills required for the awarding of their degree.

The Board of Examiners of the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) is under Article 7.12 of the Law on Higher Education (WHW), responsible for examination and monitors the level of exams and elective courses of the following programmes; Bachelor Security Studies, Master Crisis and Security Management and the minors Cybersecurity & Cybercrime, Global Affairs, Intelligence Studies, Violence Studies and Safety, Security and Justice.

The duties and responsibilities of the Board of Examiners include at least:

  • Promulgating rules and regulations on exams;
  • Awarding degree certificates;
  • The quality assurance of examinations and final examinations and of the organisation of examinations and procedures relating to these;
  • Establishing Rules & Regulations concerning the performance of duties and responsibilities that are documented in the OER;
  • Handling requests and complaints from students;
  • Granting exemption from one or more examinations;
  • Granting permission to follow electives;
  • Extending the period of validity of results;
  • Enforcing sanctions if a student commits fraud or plagiarism.  

                                                               
The scope of the boards authority and the institute’s applicable rules and regulations are laid out in two distinct but related documents, namely the Course and Exam Regulations (CER), drawn up by the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs, and the Rules and Regulations (R&R), drawn up by the Board of Examiners.

In these two documents students can find everything they need about teaching-related issues such as:

  • Registration procedures for and gaining admittance to exams and resits;
  • The validity of completed exams and practical exercises (such as term papers);
  • Policy for resits and requesting an extra exam;
  • Evaluation, partial marks, the rounding of scores and determining the final mark;
  • Fraud and plagiarism;
  • Regulations pertaining to special circumstances

Note: Queries in the form of letters and/or e-mail messages addressed to individual members of the Board of Examiners will not be acted upon. All correspondence should be in writing and go through the Offical Secretary. 

The Board of Examiners in its capacity also processes individual requests from students regarding their studies (questions regarding the RTE and R&R).

Cases of fraud and plagiarism are taken very seriously by the Institute of Security and Global Affairs and will be subject to sanctions. Please be aware of the guidelines concerning fraud and plagiarism.
