Skills workshops
We start the second day of the FLO event with the skills workshops. We have 2 rounds of skills workshops about several skills.
All of the workshops are taught by an experienced trainer and/or by professionals who work in a social sciences-related field of work and who use this skill on a daily basis. During a workshop, the trainer will share their professional experiences with this skill including anecdotes and example situations. Of course, a workshop also includes an interactive element, such as solving a case or practicing a professional conversation (for example coaching session) in a small group.
Round 1, Thursday 8th February: 11.00-12.30
Trainer: Daan de Jong (The Smiling Salesman)
Description: Everyone, and almost every day, has to pitch themselves: it might be for a short and quick personal introduction to someone you meet, for a job opportunity, or to share your dream with anyone who listens. We are constantly presenting and sharing ideas with the world. However, presenting is not always that easy and unfortunately, it is not a natural skill we are all born with. During this workshop, we will be sharing the key elements for pitching, and we will be practicing too! Come and join us to take your presentation skills to the next level!

Everyone is talking about how AI will replace all of our jobs. But have you stopped to think about how we could work alongside AI? Besides using ChatGPT to write essays, there are countless other opportunities to facilitate and expand our work opportunities in really easy ways. During this workshop, we will be playing with several of these AI tools, and we will explore how to use AI effectively within different work environments.
Trainer: Thalia Thomassen from PDC, skills-teacher, trainer and coach in the Personal Development Centre at Leiden University. She studied Clinical Psychology at this University.
In this workshop, we will will focus on identifying aspects around your “purpose” and values. We will explore what you find important in life and why. We focus on topics related to questions such as: “What do I find important?”, “What do I want to bring others?”, “How does my study relate to me and my values?”, “What ideas do I have that I would like to bring into practice?”, “Should I keep doing something I am good at, but don’t like doing?” We work with tools that help you find and anchor direction within your own life, study path, ambitions and other activities. Curious in getting to know yourself and your direction in life a little better? Sign up for this workshop.
