Programme overview
The track spans 30 EC, with courses designed to challenge and inspire you across three years. Here’s how your journey unfolds:
Discover how social sciences tackle today’s biggest challenges.
In your first year, you will:
- Collaborate in innovative think tanks to address pressing global issues.
- Engage with eye-opening films and thought-provoking readings.
- Build a sense of community through group activities inside and outside the classroom.
This is your chance to connect with peers and learn from professionals, all while exploring how science, society, and self are interwoven.
Shape your future through flexible options and hands-on experiences.
In your second year, you will choose how to make an impact:
- Select at least one Honours Module (4 EC):
Artificial Intelligence: Understand and Create
Sustainability and Health
Juvenile Delinquency: Prevention and Repression
- Explore real-world applications:
- Join the Changemakers Lab to create social impact.
- Take on a societal internship in diverse organizations.
- Dive into research by assisting professors in your field.
You can also apply to join an Honours Class offered by the Honours Academy. You can consult your Honours coach about your options to discover what aligns with your academic and professional goals.
You can join the track in Year 2 and complete 15 EC each in Years 2 and 3.
Apply your academic knowledge to solve complex societal problems.
In your final year, you will:
- Take at least one Honours Class (5 EC) from a variety of interdisciplinary courses, including Summer Schools.
- Choose electives like lecture series or reflect on events like the Diversity & Inclusion Symposium.
- Collaborate with partner organizations such as Leiden Municipality to analyze real-world challenges in Leiden.
You will also attend the Honours Symposium, where you’ll prepare for the next step in your academic or professional journey.
