How to wear your graduation outfit
Each year students ask questions about how to actually wear your cap and gown. To make sure everyone is wearing it in the same, correct way, here is a short guide. There is even something which you should know about the tassel too!
Gown & Honour Stole
LUC graduands wear a silver/blue honour stole over their black gown. The silver side is supposed to be visible and the long side should be worn to the back. The stole needs to be pulled back so the neckline of the gown is no longer visible.
Cap & Tassel
- Secure the loop of the tassel onto the button located at the center top part of your cap. Tug gently on the tassel to make sure it’s firmly under the button.
- Stretch the cap to position it over your head. The correct angle of the graduation cap would be where the front tip appears on the center of your forehead, between your eyes. The elastic band should be centered on the back of the head.
- According to tradition, the tassel is worn on the right side and moved to the left once you have received your diploma.
Colour of the tassel
The colour of the tassel depends on your major:
Major | Colour |
Culture, History & Society | Red |
Earth, Energy & Sustainability | Green |
Global Public Health | Silver |
Governance, Economics & Development | Gold |
International Justice | Purple |
World Politics | Blue |
