At the Honours Academy, students (vwo, bachelor, master) engage in extra education.

The Honours Academy of Leiden University organises outside-the-box education in which students and teachers from all faculties further develop themselves. In doing so, we help them, the university, and society move forward.

Leiden University gives inquisitive students the opportunity to follow an extra programme or classes alongside their regular bachelor’s programme. These are called Honours College and Honours Classes.

At Leiden University, students with enquiring minds are encouraged to take on an extra challenge alongside their regular studies. Master Honours Classes & Challenges are small-scale, interdisciplinary courses that revolve around tackling a complex issue for society or a partner organisation.

The new Bachelor Honours Programme Sustainability is a unique joint initiative by the LDE Centre for Sustainability and the Honours Academies of Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam (LDE Alliance).

On Monday 25 September, Professor M. Cherif Bassiouni passed away, at the age of 79. Throughout his distinguished career, Professor M. Cherif Bassiouni has made a unique contribution to international criminal justice.

On 26 April Professor of Experimental Physics Jan van Ruitenbeek was made a Knight in the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands. He received the decoration from mayor Emile Jaensch in Oegstgeest, where he lives. Van Ruitenbeek received the honour for his services to physics.
