For who

Students who wish to follow, and meet the admission criteria for, the Master of Laws: Advanced Studies programme in International Children’s Rights.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

• be a national of Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda or Malawi,
• be highly motivated to follow the Master of Laws Advanced Studies Programme in International Children’s Rights, and
• Lack the financial means to follow the study programme without the assistance of a scholarship.

Obligations

After graduation, scholarship recipients must return to their home country and bring into practice the knowledge obtained during the programme, in order to improve the implementation of international children’s rights in their home country.

Exclusions

You cannot be awarded a Children’s Rights Scholarship 2 if:

• you will follow a study programme other than the Master of Laws Advanced Studies programme in International Children’s Rights at Leiden University.

Scholarship amount

The scholarship amounts to €44,432, which covers the full costs of participation (tuition, travel, living expenses and accommodation costs). The duration of the scholarship is one year.

Application process

1. Submit an online application for admission to the Master of Laws: Advanced Studies in International Children’s Rights  and pay the application fee of € 100. It is not possible to waive this fee.
   Please note: you are required to upload a sufficient English test result with your application. Please check the English language requirements.
2. In your online application, upload a letter of motivation for the Children’s Rights Scholarship 2 that meets all the following criteria:
   • It clearly states your student number (from uSis) and that the letter concerns your motivation for the Children’s Rights Scholarship 2.
   • It describes your financial situation and why you are unable to follow the programme without a scholarship;
   • It states your reasons for wishing to follow the study programme.
3. After submitting your online application, send an e-mail to the programme coordinator via ICRscholarships@law.leidenuniv.nl indicating your interest in the scholarship and attaching your scholarship motivation letter and a short video of 2 minutes in which you introduce yourself.

Selection process

Candidates for the scholarship are selected by the Admission Board of the programme and the organisation providing the scholarship. Scholarship decisions will be announced in the first week of May 2025.

The Children’s Rights Scholarship 2 is a private scholarship.
