Representative from ERC Safe & Sound presents paper at WE ROBOT Europe
On 17 October, a representative from the ERC Safe & Sound project attended the first edition of WE ROBOT Europe in Berlin. At the conference, speakers and participants from the academic world, policy bodies and industry shared and discussed their thoughts on robotics regulation in the EU and the US. Representing the Safe & Sound project, PhD candidate Mohammed Raiz Shaffique presented the draft working paper on Science for Robot Policy in the EU.
The presentation emphasised how the EU's evidence-based decision-making framework seeks to incorporate scientific knowledge into regulatory processes. It also highlighted the importance of this approach in the field of service robotics. Raiz conducted a survey of participants' views on service robotics regulation and discussed the challenges associated with regulating fast-paced technologies.
