Apply for the US Business Law Summer School programme
Always dreamed of studying at an American Ivy League university? Columbia University is offering Leiden University’s law students the opportunity to follow a three-week curriculum at one of the world’s most prestigious universities.
The US Business Law Summer School programme makes it possible for one third-year bachelor’s or master’s student from Leiden Law School to follow courses over a period of three weeks in July 2025, for free*, at Columbia University in New York. The programme, which is worth €6,000, comprises the following courses:
- Introduction to US Legal Institutions, by Professor Jody Kraus, Columbia Law School
- Introduction to Negotiation, by Professor Shawn Watts, University of Kansas
- US Corporate Law in an International Perspective, by Dean John Armour, Oxford University Faculty of Law
- Deals: The Law and Economics of Transactions, by Emeritus Dean David Schizer, Columbia Law School
How to apply
Applications can be submitted by Monday 25 November at 23.59, by sending an email to m.f.ter.kuile@law.leidenuniv.nl. The subject line of your email should be: Columbia US LAW Summer School. The email should include the following:
- CV
- Student number
- Motivation letter (in English, max. 400 words)
- Unadjusted university grade list stating your average grade (by applying, you give permission for us to check your grades in uSis)
- Proof of language proficiency (CEFR B2 or a 7 for VWO English)
Only third-year bachelor’s students or master’s students will be considered for the US Business Law Summer School programme.
*The amount of €6,000 covers the enrolment fee for the programme. Note that travel costs, accommodation, visa, insurance and any other costs are payable by you.
