Is ‘LDE Space & Society’ for me? (and 4 other questions)
Bridging the gap between the space sector and society, together with students from other disciplines. That’s the aim of the LDE Space & Society Honours Programme, which is launching this year. Applications close 6 October 2024. Read on to discover if it’s for you!
1. Where does the name ‘LDE Space & Society Honours Programme’ come from?
LDE is the collaboration between Universiteit Leiden, TU Delft en Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. The LDE Space & Society is the second honours programme organised jointly by the three universities, following the LDE Sustainability Honours Programme.
The name Space & Society was chosen because the programme explicitly seeks to connect the space sector with society. For this reason, students from all disciplines are welcome, from law to mathematics and from humanities to archaeology.
2. Is this programme for me?
- Are you a second or third-year bachelor’s student?
- Are you interested in space and society?
- Do you want to learn how to collaborate in practice?
If so, apply now! Don’t have any prior knowledge of space? No problem! Students from all programmes are welcome to apply. The programme provides you with the basic knowledge needed to tackle a challenge in the space sector.
3. How is the programme structured?
You will take two courses: a series of lectures with sector visits and workshops (5 EC) and a space challenge (10 EC). The lectures take place on Wednesday evenings at various locations (Leiden-Delft-Rotterdam). In the space challenge, you will work on a practical problem posed by a partner organisation in the space sector.
4. What will I learn?
- The basics of space technology, space law, the space industry, and more.
- How to collaborate effectively in an interdisciplinary team of students.
- How to analyse a challenge in the space sector and identify conflicts of interest.
- How to combine insights from different disciplines to design solutions.
5. How do I apply?
You can apply from 2 September to 6 October 2024 (22:00) via the application form on the student website. There you will also find more information about the programme.
Applications for the LDE Sustainability are also open during this period. You can find more information on the student website about this programme, too.
