The Opening of the Academic Year 2024 will be held in Pieterskerk on Monday 2 September. This year’s theme is ‘Science for Policy’. Students, staff and anyone else who is interested are welcome.
Leiden University conducts research not only on relevant topics to policymakers but also on how different authorities can apply complex knowledge to their policies. For instance, the university and policymakers are working on good, sustainable solutions for the Netherlands.
At this Opening of the Academic Year, students, staff and university partners will discuss surprising and inspiring collaboration projects between the university and local, regional, national and international officials and policymakers.
Bringing science to policy
The keynote speaker is Corien Prins, Chair of the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy and Professor of Law and Information Technology at Tilburg University. Bringing science to policy is important yet complex. In her speech Prins will address questions relating to science for policy. Prins specialises in law and regulation of technology (ICT, digitalisation, AI), privacy, cybersecurity, public information policy and electronic government.
In addition to the keynote speech, there will be video interviews, music and prizes followed by a reception afterwards.
