Bingo, barista and drinks: a successful We are Science Week
For three days, our faculty was all about We are Science Week: the community event full of fun activities for our staff and students. Besides the famous Beat the Professor PubQuiz, this year you could take USC yoga classes in the Gorlaeus garden, escape from Einstein's Escaperoom and sing along at the top of your lungs during karaoke in De Fusie. Need to relax between lectures and busy appointments? That was possible on Tuesday and Thursday during a Yin Yoga class by the USC.
In the Gorlaeus garden, you could play various games such as table football, mega four in a row and corn hall.
Afterwards, you could get a nice cup of coffee from a real barista. A cappuccino, a latte macchiato or a chai: Guus made it all!
Always wanted a Leiden Science shirt? On Tuesday and Thursday, we handed out old year shirts. 2020, 2021 or 2022, they all passed by. Many students and staff grabbed their chance and took a shirt home.
On Tuesday evening, it was time for the famous Beat the Professor PubQuiz! Despite having to brave the rain beforehand to score some chips at Henk Patat, the entire atrium was packed with candidates for the trophy. But who took it home in the end?
It remained exciting until the last moment, but in the end team LST & MST Power drew the longest straw. They are this year's winners of the Beat the Professor PubQuiz! Congratulations!
3, 65, 89. Bingo! In De Fusie, prizes were strewn about: some won an inflatable crocodile, others won gadgets from the University Shop. In the end, only one could go home with the grand prize - a USC summer season ticket. Congratulations to all! And thanks to our sponsors: the University shop and USC! After the bingo, the evening ended with karaoke.
Once again, the poffertjes were a great success this year! If you wanted to score a portion, you did have to join a long queue…
But it was worth it, because they were delicious!
Getting better at writing? In the Gorlaeus garden, Leiden Science writing coaches were on hand to talk about how they can help. Sharing a tip of your own was rewarded; a spin on the Wheel of Fortune determined which prize you went home with.
And those with nerves of steel could try to escape from Einstein's Escaperoom. Over 40 teams made an attempt.
