Annetje Ottow and Seda Gürkan visit the College of Europe in Bruges
Annetje Ottow, President of Leiden University’s Executive Board, and Seda Gürkan, Assistant Professor in European Approaches to Security, Diplomacy and Global Affairs at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), visited the College of Europe campus in Bruges on Friday 22 March.
During the visit
The visit was a follow-up to Rector Mogherini’s visit to The Hague Campus on 23 November 2023 where she officially launched the Europe Hub, and is a sign of growing collaboration between the two institutions. During the visit, Rector Mogherini informed Professor Ottow about various initiatives undertaken by the College, including the College of Europe’s new campus in Tirana, Albania, and the recently established European Diplomatic Academy.
They exchanged views on education and research with a view to enhancing the collaboration between the two institutions. The College can host Leiden University students on a case-by-case basis, and involve them in various activities, including in high-level public lectures that regularly take place at the College. Furthermore, they discussed to collaborate on creating student-centered activities addressing current issues on European integration. Rector Mogherini informed about the Dutch government scholarship programme that benefits ten Dutch students annually to study at the College, and the Diversity & Inclusion grants that can also benefit Leiden students who are willing to pursue their studies in the College. Rector Mogherini accepted Professor Ottow’s invitation to join the Europe Hub’s launch event in Brussels this autumn. At the end of the visit, Prof. Ottow met with Leiden University alumni who currently pursue their studies at the College of Europe.

The visit took place within the framework of the Europe Hub’s outreach activities and was facilitated by Dr. Seda Gürkan, Assistant Professor, Institute for Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), Faculty of Governance Global Affairs (FGGA) and Europe Hub Steering Committee member, and Marc Holtkamp, Senior Advisor on Strategic Collaboration, Leiden University.
