Acts of Kindness Pillar Reveal
Monday 14 November marks the start of the Week on the International Student. The perfect moment to reveal our new Acts of Kindness Pillar. At 12.00 hours on the dot, the festive reveal will take place in the restaurant at KOG. Everyone is cordially invited to take part in the ceremony and have some cake to celebrate. But what exactly is the Acts of Kindness Pillar?
Acts of Kindness makes it easy for students – and staff – to ask or offer assistance with the installation of a pillar in combination with offer/request cards. It works similarly to the advert displays at supermarkets: a student – or staff member – can put a card on the pillar offering or requesting a friendly gesture. An act of kindness does not always have to be big: think of lending or borrowing some books, for example, having a cup of coffee together, or taking a walk.
Why this pillar?
More and more attention is being given to mental wellbeing at the KOG, and this subject is now given a physical manifestation in the building. The pillar will be placed at a central location in the KOG so students - and staff – will be able to find the pillar easily and make use of it. There will always be a few cards on the pillar with various requests or offers. We hope this will help create a caring community in which taking care of each other comes naturally. Kindness is both literally as well as figuratively an important pillar at the KOG. Hopefully, loneliness will subside because of the connection that is created, both among Dutch as well as international students and staff.

On Monday 14 November at 12.00 hours, we will have an opening ceremony for the pilar in the restaurant. You are cordially invited to attend. A small act of kindness can make a big difference.
