Olaf van Vliet appointed Professor of Economics
The Executive Board has appointed Olaf van Vliet as Professor of Economics at Leiden University, specialising in social security and labour market policy from an international perspective. The chair is affiliated to both the Department of Economics (Leiden Law School) and the Institute of Public Administration (Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs).
Van Vliet was already professor by special appointment, endowed by the Gak Institute, at the Department of Economics and the Institute of Public Administration. This new appointment will be partly funded by the Gak Institute. The appointment commenced on 1 October 2021.
Olaf van Vliet conducts research on developments in social security and the labour market. He focuses, among other things, on the effectiveness of labour market policy, flexibilisation of the labour market, the effects of automation and digitalisation and the effects of labour migration.
Van Vliet holds various management positions. He is Head of the Department of Economics, programme leader of the interfaculty research programme Social Citizenship & Migration and a member of the academic Executive Board of the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Center on the Governance of Migration and Diversity.
