Opening Ceremony of the LL.M. European Law
On Thursday 16 September 2021, the Opening Ceremony of the LL.M. European Law took place in person at Leiden Law School.
Following the opening words of Prof. Stefaan van den Bogaert, Dr. Vasiliki Kosta presented two awards to two students. The first prize was awarded to Maarten Kopla for the Best paper in Europa in de Praktijk, and the second prize was awarded to Côme van Autryve for the Best Thesis in the 2020-2021 academic year.
In the second part of the ceremony, the Europa Institute welcomed Dr Kathalijne Buitenweg, member of the Council of State of the Netherlands as a keynote speaker. Based on her personal experience, she reflected on the differences and similarities between the European Parliament and the House of Representatives of the Dutch Parliament. She addressed issues such as representation and composition of political groups, the institutions’ involvement in the legislative process and in controlling the executive. Her talk was followed by a Q&A session – and by a very warm applause.
The ceremony was then followed by drinks.
