Q&A session on Blue Book Traineeship
On Wednesday 27 January, EU Careers, an organisation that on behalf of the Dutch government offers assistance with job applications at EU institutions, and the Europa Institute organised a Q&A session for the students of the LLM European Law on the Blue Book Traineeship at the European Commission.
These 6 month traineeships are an important way for university graduates to gain experience in Brussels and get a taste of the work at one of the EU institutions. The traineeship is highly competitive and accepts only 600 trainees per round.
Iris de Leede, a current trainee at the European External Action Service, and Amber Scheele, student ambassador for EU Careers, answered questions from around thirty-five students of the European Law master's programme on the traineeship and the application procedure.
De Leede shared her experiences at the EEAS, what a working day looks like and how COVID-19 has affected the work of trainees. Scheele and De Leede also shared tips and tricks for the application process itself. Among these were the need to lobby, the importance of languages, and ways to emphasise strengths on students’ resumes.
