NICA is moving to Leiden
Since 1 January Leiden has a new graduate school. The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Analysis (NICA), previously based at the University of Amsterdam, has moved to the Centre for the Arts in Society (LUCAS).
NICA is a Dutch national research school, dedicated to the academic study of contemporary culture from an interdisciplinary, theoretical, and critical perspective. The school offers graduate courses for research master and PhD students, and serves as a professional network for affiliated scholars.
Home for scholars
The new executive team of NICA consists of Pepita Hesselberth (director), Tessa de Zeeuw (manager) and Kim Sommer (office manager). They state it is their hope that NICA will in Leiden continue to offer a home to a community of scholars in various stages of their careers, where they will especially focus on PhD and research master students.
Hesselberth: ‘Especially for young researchers and PhD students it’s incredibly important to be able to present their work in progress in an environment that is safe, where they can develop the skills to persist in an international environment and where they can build a network they can appeal of in the future. This will be a focus for us in the near future.’
More information about NICA can be found at the institute’s website. NICA can be reached at nica@hum.leidenuniv.nl.
