Parking spaces on the city map

Entrance

  • There are two automatic sliding doors that can be left open longer if needed. A second automatic sliding door follows after about 5 metres.
  • The entrance is about 1.6 m wide.
  • There is no threshold.

Wheelchair-accessible toilet

After the entrance, go straight on for about 10 m, then turn right and go straight on for 8 m. The toilet is on the left.

Lifts

After the entrance, turn right and then 15 metres straight ahead. Then another right. The lift is on the right. Same directions for lift about 15 metres left after the entrance.

Both lifts give access to the first and second floors. The right-hand lift provides access to rooms 3.07 to 3.10. The left-hand lift gives access to rooms 3.01 to 3.05.

Possible obstacles

  • The route to the entrance consists of cobblestones.
  • There is a swing door towards rooms 1.40 to 1.45. There is also a height difference here via a small slope of about 10 cm.

Public Transport

The Faculty of Humanities is a 10-minute walk from Leiden Central Station.
Alternatively you could take bus 1 from the train station and get off at 'Paterstraat', or bus 5 or 6 and get off at 'Noordeinde'. For public transport planning see ns.nl (for trains) and 9292.nl (for all public transport).

Car

If you come by car, please do not use the visiting address for your car navigation: the Cleveringaplaats has no streetlevel parking. The most convenient car parks are located at the Haagweg (€ 2 p/h) and the Maliebaan (street level parking, €2 p/h).
From the Haagweg car park you can walk to the University buildings at the Witte Singel in about 6 minutes. If you need to go to the city centre, a free bus will take you there from the Haagweg parking.

Flying

If you are flying to Schiphol Amsterdam Airport (AMS), the easiest way to travel to Leiden is by train.
The airport includes an underground railway station, with frequent services to Leiden (as final destination, or en route to The Hague/Den Haag, Rotterdam, or Vlissingen). From the airport to Leiden by train takes 15-20 minutes. For more details see the above section on public transport.

University parking facilities

Parking spaces on Leiden University campuses are limited. Do you have an appointment with one of our staff members? Please mention that you are coming by car; if possible, a parking spot will be arranged for you in one of our parking facilities.

Municipal parking facilities

Are you visiting the Hortus botanicus, student centre Plexus or one of our faculties in the centre of Leiden? There are (limited) opportunities for paid parking on the streets and along the canals. An alternative is Parking Leiden Haagweg car park, which is easily accessible from the access roads to Leiden. A free shuttle bus will take you to any location in the centre of Leiden and pick you up again at any time. You can also walk: the car park is about 15 minutes' walk from the city centre.
