Discover the Labs and Studios at the new Humanities Hub for Digital Research, Skills, and Media. Consisting of the Digital Lab, Translation Lab, Journalism Lab & Editorial Room, MediaLab+ Workshops, AI Lab, Maker Space, Podcast & Livestream Studio, Film Studio and Ludic Lab.
We'll be kicking off with introductions to our labs and studios at 16:00, and then meet in the Digital Lab 0.09 at 16:30 to hear short pitches from colleagues who employ the labs and studios for their research and teaching. Then we open the bar at 17:00 with complementary drinks/snacks. The remaining hour we will have two sets of demonstrations. Amongst those demos, you can choose from the following:
Matthew Sung in the AI Lab:
Digital Mapping @LUCDH
"Mapping is a visualisation tool for the humanities. Maps do not only show the locations of physical objects, but they also allow us to identify areal patterns from data collected in multiple places, which might be relevant for investigating processes like diffusion, demographic movements and social barriers. In this demo, I will illustrate a number of mapping techniques taken from dialectology, the study of language variation in space. You will get a sense of what kinds of mapping are being done at the LUCDH, which could also be applicable to disciplines outside the field of linguistics."
