This talk will provide an overview of the digital humanities field alongside digital resources for Japanese Studies specialists, focusing on those relevant to premodern and early modern Japan. Scholars have and are taking diverse approaches to the digital analysis and presentation of early Japanese research materials and this introduction will share some core techniques and tools.
About the speaker
Dr. Paula R. Curtis is a historian of medieval Japan based at UCLA. She is presently Operations Leader for Japan Past & Present (JPP), a global information hub and repository that promotes research and teaching in the Japanese humanities across disciplinary, temporal, and geographic borders. Dr. Curtis collaborates in several online projects, including Digital Humanities Japan; an online database for digital resources related to East Asia; and the collection and visualization of job market data in East Asian Studies.
