Student Well-being Week: Spring into action!

Spring is the season of new beginnings: it’s green outside, the days become longer and the natural world buzzes with new life. It’s a wonderful season to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. A time to leave those screens and study rooms behind and get moving.
Did you know that a few minutes of exercise every half hour works wonders for your brain? You improve your vitality and find yourself more able to cope with your work and all its challenges. To make this easier and more appealing, the Healthy University Wek is being held from 13 to 17 May 2024 and the theme is Spring into action! This week is held for students and staff, so do not be surprised to meet some staff members. Registration is done via the forms below.
Programme
08:30 - 09:00 - Pilates
Location: Hortus Botanicus
In Pilates you will do low-impact exercises at slow speed. This mainly involves using your core: your abdominal muscles. You will not only become stronger but will also develop a better posture and more stamina.
12:00 - 13:00 - Lunch Walk
Location: Leiden
Bring your own lunch for this wonderful and inspiring lunch walk in the centre of Leiden. This is a great way to stay active during a work day and to get to know new people.
08:30 - 09:00 - Yoga with Tai Chi
In a demanding society there is often little space and attention for yourself. Stress and fatigue symptoms can develop as a result of this. Participate in this workshop that combines exercises from Yoga and Tai Chi. These exercises will create better balance and cooperation between mind and body.
12:00 - 13:00 - Mindfulness
Locatie: Hortus Botanicus
Do you want less stress and more focus? With mindfulness you learn to become aware of your experiences. Through exercises you learn to notice what is happening in your body and in your environment.
08:30 - 09:00 - Yoga with Tai Chi
Location: Kamerlingh Onnes Building
In a demanding society there is often little space and attention for yourself. Stress and fatigue symptoms can develop as a result of this. Participate in this workshop that combines exercises from Yoga and Tai Chi. These exercises will create better balance and cooperation between mind and body.

Do you also easily fall prey to stress and fatigue? Yin Yang Yoga is a combination of calm and powerful yoga and creates better balance and cooperation between mind and body.

16:00 - 17:00 - Bootcamp
Location: Plexus Student Centre (garden)
During this bootcamp you will work on your endurance and train different muscle groups using interval training to music. You will also do running and jumping exercises and work with dumbbells. This varied approach ensures effective cardio and strength building and delivers fast results.

These activities are part of the Healthy University Week organized for staff. As a result of the more intensive cooperation in the areas of student and staff well-being, a number of activities have also been made available to students. So don't be surprised if not only fellow students are present at the activities! Sign up and join one or two sessions and experience what outdoor exercise can do for your energy levels.
During this week it is Open Sports Week at the University Sports Center. This means that everyone can exercise for free at all USC branches from May 13 to 19. You can also take out a very affordable summer subscription at USC during this period!
