As faculty, we believe it is important to have fun together besides work and study. Therefore, during the We are Science Week, grab your chance to take part in fun and relaxing activities on campus!
Meeting place for everyone at FWN
For three days, the Gorlaeus Building and the Gorlaeus garden will be the setting for the We are Science Week. The inner garden will be transformed into a meeting place where you can lounge and play games, such as table tennis and table football, and where you can get tasty snacks and drinks and buy Leiden Science merchandise at various times. In case of bad weather, we will move the programme inside.
See you then!
Every day, you can take a break and play one of the games in the Gorlaeus garden with your fellow students or colleagues. The games you can find in the indoor garden are:
- Table tennis
- Table football
- XL Jenga
- Giant 4 in a row
Come and have a drink with your fellow students or colleagues to end your day. The bar in the garden of the Gorlaeus Building will be open both days from 17:00 to 19:00 hrs. The bar is hosted by De Fusie. Will we see you there?
Would you like to walk around in a nice Leiden Science hoodie or drink water from a cool Leiden Science water bottle? Buy your favorite item during the We are Science Week. Our Leiden Science Pop-up Store can be found in the garden of the Gorlaeus Building and is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00-14:00 hrs. And are you still looking for an old year's shirt? Then you are also welcome to pick up a shirt for free on 21 and 23 May.
Fancy a nice freshly made cup of coffee? Monday and Thursday between 11:00 and 14:00 hrs. you can order delicious free americanos, espressos, and cappuccinos from a real barista in the garden of the Gorlaeus Building.
All that hard work and studying calls for a moment of relaxation. USC will therefore host two Yin Yoga classes this week: a gentle form of yoga that improves balance and cooperation between body and mind. Poses are held for several minutes, allowing the muscles to relax. A nice exercise for those who sit a lot. Come to the Gorlaeus garden on Tuesday from 13:00 to 13:30 hrs. and/or Thursdays from 08:30 to 09:00 hrs. No need to bring anything with you. A special sports outfit is not necessary either. You can just keep on the clothes you came to the faculty in.
From 16:30 to 18:30 hrs., Henk Patat will sell chips and snacks (2 euro each) in the garden of the Gorlaeus Building. Are you taking part in the PubQuiz? Then get something to eat in time so you don't miss the first round of the quiz.
While enjoying a drink, compete against students, staff and alumni in several rounds of trivia. Questions are not limited to the subject of (natural) sciences but can be about anything.
Getting the highest grade, excelling in your subject or winning a grant. We like to get the most out of ourselves, but we simply do not always succeed. And we don't have to. But how do you cope when something does not go as you had hoped? In this workshop (12:00-12:30 hrs.), Elly van Laar (student wellbeing officer) will tell you how to be compassionate with yourself in such situations. The workshop is in the Gorlaeus Building, EM.1.09. You don't have to register for this workshop.
For some, working in the lab is the most normal thing in the world, but for a lot of staff and students of our faculty, it is not. Are you curious to know what goes on in the lab? Drop in between 12:00 and 14:00 at any of the locations below!

How do you overcome writer's block? How do you provide the right head space? How should you handle feedback from your prof? How can you get better at writing? If you are writing a thesis or final paper, you may run into a lot of things. The best thing you can do then is to ask for help. Drop by the writing coaches between 12:00 and 14:00 hrs. to hear how they can help you.
Keep an eye on our Instagram during the We Are Science Week. In the stories each day, we post the programme of that day and, during the day, pictures and videos of the activities.
