The theme of this year's EPFR toogdag is 'The Concept of Justice in a War Era: The Cases of Gaza, South-Sudan, and Bosnia and Herzegovina'. In this exploration of the concept of justice during wartime, the event will feature insightful presentations, starting with 'The Emergent Role of Digital Technologies for the Assemblage and Contestation of Facts in Armed Conflict: Lessons from Gaza.' This presentation promises to dive deeply into the complex dynamics of information dissemination during conflict, highlighting the pivotal role of technology.
Additionally, there will be a thought-provoking discussion on 'Justice Systems and Non-Violent Dispute Resolution in New Wars: Insights from Libya and South Sudan,' providing valuable perspectives on navigating justice and resolution in contemporary conflicts. Furthermore, the event will shine a spotlight on the idea of justice in a post-conflict period, using Bosnia and Herzegovina as a case study, by watching and discussing the documentary ‘Searching for Justice’ (25 minutes, 2023) with its director and producer, Ado Hasanović. This documentary was produced as part of an honours course at Leiden Law School and showcases students from Leiden University and Sarajevo University who conducted interviews with war and genocide survivors to explore their perspectives on justice.
Join us for a day of critical reflections on the evolving landscape of fundamental rights protection in the face of global challenges.
