In the expertmeeting In conversation with KIMSOOJA on Friday 1 March, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Museum De Lakenhal Kitty Zijlmans (Professor Emeritus of Contemporary Art History and Theory/World Art Studies - Leiden University) will talk with Kimsooja about her work and how it developed. Philosopher Dobin Choi (Korean and Comparative Philosophy, Institute for Philosophy - Leiden University) will join the roundtable discussion to reflect on the significance of personal cultural origins in (contemporary) art.
Curator Amanda Pinatih (Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam) and curator Keumhwa Kim (independent curator - Berlin) have both worked with Kimsooja. They will discuss Kimsooja's work within the specific context of their exhibitions, respectively within textile arts and the context of the historical Asian collection at Humboldt Forum in Berlin. Curator Nicole Roepers (Museum De Lakenhal) will give a reading of Kimsooja's work in relation to Museum De Lakenhal.

About Kimsooja
Kimsooja is considered one of the world's leading artists. Rooted in Korean traditions and working in a range of media, Kimsooja's work combines personal histories with universal themes such as migration, mobility and a sense of home.
Textiles feature frequently in Kimsooja's installations, performances, sculptures, films and photographs. Her familiar use of multicoloured bottari (Korean bedspreads with corners knotted to carry personal belongings in) refer to the relationship between textiles and migration – two themes that occupy an important position in Museum De Lakenhal's collection.
Kimsooja – Thread Roots is on show from 2 March to 21 July in Museum De Lakenhal and is made possible thanks to the support of The Korea Foundation, Mondriaan Fund, Cultural Participation Fund and the Municipality of Leiden.
