Social Glue: The Art of Bonding and Breaking Loneliness
Studying, moving to a new city and living on your own for perhaps the first time can be an exciting and liberating experience. However, your student life will most likely not only consist of amazing experiences. Especially as an international student, you might have to deal with loneliness, cultural differences and feeling homesick. After all, making friends and creating lasting relationships whilst balancing your studies, work and other activities is not an easy task.
However, you are not alone! Together with psychologist Vassia Sarantopoulou, we will address some of the questions and issues around making meaningful connections as an adult. Let's meet and discuss:
- How can we deal with cultural differences?
- How can we cope with loneliness, homesickness, nostalgia and with the distance from home, family and friends?
- How can we settle in and integrate into our new environment (city, work, etc)?
- What are the do's and don'ts for authentic and deep relationships?
- How can we connect with others and create lasting relationships with them?
- How can we give our relationships a real chance without sabotaging the connection?
When and where
The activity will take place on Monday 22 May from 15:30 till 17:00 in the Lipsius building room 1.28. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
All students welcome
Please note that this activity is open to all Leiden University students, not just international students.
