The multi-disciplinary research project Mind-the-Game!, led by the Folkwang University of the Arts, Essen, Germany, recently culminated with the opening of an online exhibition that collects statements, discussions, and virtual art installments on the wider meaning of games for the awareness on the role of AI in society.
Besides others, LIACS assistant professor Mike Preuss provides a laymen AI talk on the role of AI in games and society dubbed ‘limitation and surprise’. You can watch the talk here.
The aim of the project was to investigate this role by looking at various contexts of the use and meaning of computer games, which are nowadays played by around half the population in many countries. They are thus an important interface of the general audience with AI, and can be used as lens to look upon the development of AI, the transformation of society, and the shaping up of a new type of economy from an informal and playful perspective.
The contributions of the exhibition are partly English and partly German.
