Alumni panel:

- Master programme: Research master in Developmental Psychopathology in Education and Child studies (LU) + Master Clinical Developmental Psychology (UvA)
- LinkedIn: Renee Dijkhuis
Renee has always been interested in people and their behavior. While studying psychology at the University of Amsterdam, she became curious about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She started working as a residential counselor at Stumass, where students with ASD can live in assisted student housing while attending higher education.
Through her work at Stumass (now called JADOS), Renee was offered a PhD position by Hanna Swaab and Wouter Staal. Her research focused on understanding what influences the quality of life for students with ASD in higher education. During her PhD at the department of neuropedagogy at Leiden University, she became more interested in improving the quality of life for different marginalized groups. This led her to volunteer for NGOs like War Child and Stichting Bootvluchteling.
Her interest in trauma grew, and she developed a passion for combining research with clinical work. This eventually brought her to ARQ National Psychotrauma Centre. At ARQ, Renee works both as a researcher at the Centre of Expertise for the Impact of Disasters and Crises and as a psychologist at ARQ IVP, where she provides psychosocial support for people dealing with major events at their workplace. She aims to combine research and clinical practice to improve care for those affected by potentially traumatizing experiences.
In this interactive session, Renee shares her experiences about combining research with clinical work and the choices she made during her studies and in her career after her studies.

Andrea has always had an interest in the care of children and adolescents, which motivated her to conduct research on the treatment of children and adolescents with Acquired Brain Injury (Niet-aangeboren hersenletsel (NAH)). She does this as a Researcher/PhD candidate at Basalt Rehabilitation/LUMC. Her research focuses on the development, evaluation and implementation of a (blended) treatment programme for children and adolescents (NAH) within rehabilitation care. With a passion for science, Andrea wants to contribute to better care and support for children and young people with NAH.
In this interactive session, Andrea shares her experiences about doing research and the choices she made during her studies and in her career after her studies.
