Techtip: Instant acces to all books and journals with one click

As a student, it can be difficult to access articles or books because of paywalls. Accessing materials through the library catalog is possible, but time-consuming. Search engines such as Worldcat and Google Scholar are sometimes easier. With UBL Get Access browser extension, you can access academic articles, e-books and databases licensed by the university library with a single click. This saves time by automatically accessing available materials. Down below is explaiend how to install the extension.

Chrome or Firefox:

  1. Go to the homepage of the UBL Catalogus.
  2. rag the button UBL Get Access  to your browser’s Favorites Bar (Bookmarks Toolbar)
  3. The extension is ready for use and the installation is one-time only.

Safari (Apple):

  1. Create a random bookmark in your browser’s Favorites Bar (Bookmarks Toolbar)
  2. Edit the properties of this bookmark
  3. Change the name of the bookmark to UBL Get Access (or any name you choose)
  4. Copy the code below and paste it as the URL for the bookmark: javascript:void(location.href='https://login.ezproxy.leidenuniv.nl/login?url='+location.href)
  5. The extension is ready for use and the installation is one-time only.

Making use of the UBL Get Acces plugin

  1. When you come to an article or book that is behind a paywall, click the UBL Get Access button in your Favorites toolbar.
  2. You will be prompted to log in with your UBL account. After logging in, you get instant access to the article or book. As long as your session does not expire you do not have to log in again with your ULCN credentials and can access articles and (e)books with one click
