It is with great sadness that we have learned that Robert-Jan van Ette, Clerk of the University Council, passed away last weekend at the age of 57.

In Robert-Jan, we lose a deeply dedicated and enthusiastic colleague who cherished the university and its people. Robert-Jan dedicated every day to fighting the good fight. Honest, empathetic and with his unwavering sense of humor and humanity, he brought structure and ensured that every voice was heard. ‘A little kindness goes a long way’, was his last app to one of the Council members. This is Robert-Jan to a tee and captures his communication style perfectly. He needed but a few words to sum up the situation, advise the Council on procedures or simply show you he understood.

We will miss Robert-Jan and wish his family and all who knew him much strength at this difficult time.

Robert-Jan’s funeral will take place on Saturday 22 February at 10:15 hrs. at Rhijnhof, Laan te Rhijnhof 4, 2332 HZ Leiden. The ceremony can also be followed online at media.plechtigheidonline.nl/login/code (code: T6LH-LMKD). The family warmly invites you to come and attend the service.
