Bin your Butt - Together against cigarette butts on campus
Have you noticed them already? New specially designed bins have recently been installed at the edge of the campus square. Did you know that cigarette butts are one of the most common litter items in the environment? While our campus is smoke-free, we want to support students and staff who smoke just outside the campus in preventing cigarette litter. Together, we can contribute to a cleaner environment.
About Bin your Butt
Cigarette butts make up 32% of all litter, and in the Netherlands alone, €250 million is spent annually on cleaning them up. Through the Bin your Butt campaign, we aim to make a difference! The new bins feature a ‘voting bin,’ allowing you to cast your vote by dropping your cigarette butt into one of two compartments. For example: Coffee or tea? or Leiden or The Hague?
Your vote, your question!
Do you have a fun question for the bins? Submit it and your question might soon appear on our campus! Questions are changed approximately every two months.
Where to find the bins?
You can find the bins at the edge of the Campus Square. Next year, bins will also be placed in other locations across the campus.
