Wanted: talent for 450th anniversary!
2025 marks a special milestone in the history of Leiden University: our 450th anniversary. All faculties across the university are currently working on how to celebrate this special event. Here at Leiden Law School – celebrating its 450th anniversary in the same year – an event committee has already been going full steam to organise the faculty's own celebrations.
Start of anniversary celebrations
Our faculty celebrations will get underway on 6 February 2025 when theorist and legal philosopher Bonnie Honig will deliver a lecture at a symposium to celebrate that she is to receive an honorary doctorate after being nominated by Leiden Law School. The honorary doctorate will be conferred on 7 February at the Dies Natalis. This is the official start of the university’s 450th anniversary celebrations. More information on other events to mark our anniversary will follow later.
450 event committee
Under the guidance of Joanne van der Leun, the event committee at Leiden Law School includes representatives from a range of expertise such as research, education, communication, fundraising and external relations, facilities management and student associations. In close cooperation with the Faculty Board, the event committee is putting together a programme that will do justice to both our past and our future. A main priority is taking into account the challenging times in which we find ourselves as a university and faculty.
Prescheduled events
The celebrations for our 450th anniversary are being organised with cost-efficiency in mind. Here at Leiden Law School, the celebrations will be clustered around prescheduled annual activities and events. In the course of the anniversary year, special emphasis will be added to these activities reflecting our university-wide theme: ahead of times.
A joint effort
This will be a celebration that is organised for and together with our staff and students. The aim is to strengthen the connections among us and to show how proud we are of our knowledge, as well as what inspires us, our resilience and the impact we have on society.
We want you!
So, we’re on the lookout for talented colleagues and students to help make our celebrations a huge success. Are you a fantastic singer or musician? A dazzling DJ? Maybe you’re in a band, or have some other amazing talent or skill? Are you an accomplished authority on a certain topic or theme? If so, why not contribute to this great celebration? Feel free to contact our project coordinators Britt Polderman and Hannah Saberi by sending an email to lustrum450@law.leidenuniv.nl. Let's see what we can organise!
