Vacancy: Student research assistants for ERC Project on Counterterrorism
Are you a motivated and ambitious student with a keen interest in terrorism, counterterrorism, political violence, and research? Join the Terrorist Group Adaptation & Lessons for Counterterrorism (TERGAP) project, funded by an ERC Starting Grant, and gain hands-on research experience in a cutting-edge initiative. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your research skills while contributing to impactful academic work. Research assistants’ work will help improve our collective understanding of counterterrorism impacts, effectiveness, and efficacy.
As a student research assistant, you will:
- Read and analyse media articles;
- Collect and organise data on counterterrorism.
Details
- Part-time position (0.5 FTE).
- Duration: 10-12 months, with the possibility of extension for a second year. There is the possibility of shorter appointments if necessary to align with your degree programme.
- Anticipated start is January/February 2025
Selection Criteria
- Enrolled in a Universiteit Leiden bachelor’s or master’s degree programme;
- Interest in terrorism, armed conflict, violent non-state actors, counterterrorism, international security, or national security research (or relevant related subject area/topic);
- Enthusiasm for research at the intersection of conceptual and policy-oriented issues;
- Demonstrate good time-management skills;
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in an organised and results-oriented fashion;
- Data sources/documents are in English and therefore excellent command of English is required;
- Data collection experience is not required, but seen as a plus;
- Appreciation for quantitative analysis is not required, but seen as a plus.
