Join the Essay Competition in Honor of 40 Years of Public Administration!

4 September 2024

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Public Administration at Leiden University, the Institute of Public Administration is organising an essay competition! This is a great opportunity for Public Administration students to share their knowledge and insights on important societal issues. The essay should focus on a public administration topic, which you can choose yourself.

Who Can Participate?

Bachelor's and master's students of the Institute of Public Administration can submit their essays in either Dutch or English. The essay must be supported by theories, concepts, and research from the field of public administration.

The jury, chaired by Emeritus Professor Frits van der Meer, will evaluate the submissions based on originality, engaging writing style, correct citation, and scientific grounding. The word count should be between 2,000 and 3,000 words. The use of GenAI is not allowed.

The full procedure, jury, conditions, and a list of topics for inspiration can be found in the regulations (see documents). Submit your essay in PDF format by October 30, 2024, to Yasmin Wijfjes, policy officer, at y.l.wijfjes@fgga.leidenuniv.nl

Win a Cash Prize and Publication

The winner of the first prize will receive €350 and  will have their essay published in BESTUURSKUNDE, the academic journal of the Association for Public Administration. The second prize winner will receive €125, and the third prize winner will receive €75. All three essays will be published in Bestuurskundige Berichten, the journal of the B.I.L. study association.
