Vacancy: Four-week data analyst opportunity for master's student
Data Analyst for Learning Mindset (1 fte, 4 weeks)
We are looking for a Masters student from Leiden University to do quantitative and qualitative data analysis with data we have collected from three different interventions around autonomous learning at Leiden University and the University of Ghana.
What you will do
Your tasks will include:
- Develop a data management system for various Learning Mindset interventions, ensuring data integrity and security.
- Create datasets for the different interventions.
- Document data collection processes, methodologies, and data sources in codebooks to maintain transparency and reproducibility.
- Clean, organize, and transform raw data into usable formats for analysis and reporting.
- Ensure all data collection and management practices comply with relevant ethical standards and legal regulations, including data privacy laws.
- Analyze collected data to extract meaningful insights and trends. We are ideally looking for someone who can do quantitative descriptive and inferential statistics as well as qualitative thematic and content analysis.
- Prepare and present detailed reports and visualizations, summarizing key findings and recommendations.
- Clean, standardize, and format data for sharing on open data platforms, ensuring high quality and usability. We are aspiring to share our data on DANS, the Open Science data sharing platform in the Netherlands.
Where you will work? What is Learning Mindset?
The project, co-led by Caroline Archambault and David Ehrhardt of Leiden University College (LUC), aims to help students become more autonomous learners and take control of their learning processes: see www.learningmindset.org for more detail.
We design educational tools in co-creation with students and educators and are also very interested in studying the take-up, user experience, and impact of our tools in different educational settings.
The project is now in its third year – we have conducted dozens of interventions within Leiden University, other Universities in the NL, and most recently in Ghana.
What you bring
In this team, we are looking for someone who can work independently. Every job is different, so in the beginning we will devote attention to your onboarding. If some of the work activities are new to you, we will look together at what you need, and draw up a development plan. This position is a good fit for you if you recognise yourself in the following:
- Registered as a student of Leiden University
- University- and working-level thinking, with experience in and affinity for academic work and learning environments
- Preferably prior experience in data management.
- Team player focused on collaboration, able to work with multiple stakeholders;
- You have good oral and written command of the English language (minimum B2 according to the CEFR).

What we offer
An employment contract as a temporary worker (Student Assistant) for the duration of 4 weeks during the summer of 2024 (160 hours in total). The contract will be offered via JobMotion. This is the agency used by Leiden University when hiring student assistents.The salary scale is based on the salary for students assistents of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
