Vacancy: Student assistant project "German in the Netherlands" (start: 1 September 2024)

Join our project to explore how German is used and perceived in the Netherlands while making the language more visible to the public! 

Thanks to an Education Innovation Grant from Leiden University, I am looking for a student assistant (5 - 10 hours per week) for a new teaching project in German studies. 

This initiative aims to:

  1. empower students to practice German; 
  2. map out how and by whom German is used, enhancing the relevance of German Studies; 
  3. enable students and interviewees to embrace their multilingual identities.

Responsibilities of the student assistant

  • Assisting the students of the seminar in conducting interviews;
  • Developing guidelines for interview questions;
  • Gathering and analyzing qualitative data;
  • Developing guidelines for sharing interview data;
  • Supporting the publication process.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in one of the programs in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH);
  • A sustained interest in qualitative methods;
  • Highly proficient in English and German (minimum C1);
  • In the possession of a Dutch health insurance.

Our offer

  • A position in which own initiative and input are highly valued;

  • The opportunity to gain experience in the academic world;
  • A temporary appointment of 4 to 6 months from 1 September 2024;
  • The salary is in accordance with the SA scale and, depending on study progress, amounts to a minimum of €2,618 and a maximum of €2,846 gross per month (for a full-time appointment);
  • The employment contract is for 5 to 10 hours per week (to be determined together). Accrued vacation days are taken during the appointment.
