Reimagine the University of the Future and win the Una Europa Student Award!
How would you reimagine the University of the Future? What could sustainability, inclusion or mobility look like in an ideal world?
As a bachelor’s, master's or doctoral researcher (PhD) at Leiden University, we invite you to share your ideas by 13 June related to an even better future for higher education.
Your prize, if you are selected as a winner?
- Fully funded attendance at this year's Una Europa Student Congress (17-20 September at Freie Universität Berlin);
- Showcasing of your winning submission to an international network;
- The opportunity to host a joint session at the Student Congress with the other winners.

Una Europa is an alliance of 11 leading research universities, including Leiden University.
The Student Award is an annual call to award and showcase student visions, ideas, and creativity, related to Una Europa's aim to create the University of the Future.
The Student Award asks big questions related to the future of universities and the Una Europa alliance, including how universities relate to big societal issues. It is an opportunity for students to share their ideas and visions and to engage in a dialogue with students, staff, and academics in Una Europa.
The challenge
This year, students are asked to reimagine the University of the Future around six key themes:
- Diversity and inclusion
- Global engagement beyond Europe
- Student and staff mobility/exchange
- Research and innovation
- Teaching and learning
- Sustainability and climate protection
What you need to do:
Pick one of the six themes. You can also touch on more than one, but it should be clear which is your primary theme.
Reflect on two key questions:
- How can we learn from the past and present ways that this theme has been implemented?
- How can these building blocks be reinvented and connected with new ideas to create a future you would like to see?
Choose your medium! Write a poem. Make a video interview with a student from the future. Draw something. Record your spoken work. It's up to you! Just remember that your submission will need to be made digitally
