Quiet room at KOG available during Ramadan
Ramadan is upon us: a month of reflection, contemplation and community for Muslims throughout the world.
What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and for Muslims throughout the world it is an important time of fasting, prayer and reflection. During this period, Muslims abstain from food and drink between sunrise and sunset. After sunset, fasting is broken with a communal meal called ‘iftar’. Muslims fast during Ramadan as a way to get closer to God and raise their discipline and self-control. It is seen as a way to purify themselves of sins and bad habits and to reflect on their spiritual and emotional state. For many Muslims, Ramadan is also a time for social equality, where those who are less fortunate than others are supported. Fasting offers an opportunity to show empathy and to understand how it feels to be hungry and live in poverty. It is a special time of growth and connection.
