Internship: Exhibitions Team at World Press Photo (0,8 fte) 5 months

28 November 2022

The Exhibitions Team of the World Press Photo Foundation is currently looking for an enthusiastic intern to collaborate with us for 5 months, starting on 16 January 2023.

The Exhibitions Team currently consists of seven people who passionately work toward one common goal: maximizing impact through the worldwide circulation of different World Press Photo exhibitions and the organization of related programs such as guided tours, lectures and workshops. We constantly strive to grow by developing the exhibitions portfolio and new formats of our exhibitions. We are looking for an eager, dedicated, and hard-working person who would like to learn about exhibitions development from behind-the-scenes.

Each year, our exhibitions travel to 80 locations in 40 countries around the world. The internship will provide insight into many different aspects of the exhibition process, from curation of exhibitions based on the winning work, to creating an international audio tour, and developing the touring exhibition that begins in early May. As a full member of the team, you will gain hands-on experience and work towards the delivery of the team’s mission, with a special focus on assisting the flagship exhibition in Amsterdam.

What are your responsibilities?

You will work closely with members of the Exhibitions Team to:

  • Support day-to-day activities involving preparations for the 2023 exhibition season, such as administrative tasks and updating our CRM system;
  • Assist with the entire exhibition process, starting from the production of the annual traveling exhibition to the actual installation of its flagship presentation in De Nieuwe Kerk, Amsterdam;
  • Conduct research that will benefit the department’s activities;
  • Engage in the production of a multi-language audio tour;
  • Provide assistance during organizational events.

Who are we looking for?

  • You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program.
  • You have a strong interest in photography, media and/or visual journalism.
  • You are eager to learn more about preparing exhibitions on a worldwide scale.
  • You are a quick-thinking self-starter who has the ability to multitask.
  • You are creative, well-organized and flexible.
  • You have strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
  • You are fluent in English, both written and spoken. Additional languages would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.

What do we offer?

The World Press Photo Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization with its office in Amsterdam. The organization employs around 26 professionals, with 7 staff in the Exhibitions team.

We offer an internship with a variety of tasks and responsibilities in a dynamic working atmosphere. You will get the chance to work in a highly driven environment and learn more from behind the scenes of one of our foundation’s most famous activities: the traveling exhibition.

The start of the internship will be 16 January 2023 for a period of 5 months. Working hours can be somewhat flexible depending on events, but on average you will work 32 hours per week. We offer a compensation of €500 per month (gross/full-time).

The World Press Photo Foundation is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applications that can make the organization a better reflection of society.
