Easing of corona measures: additional education and exam provisions scaled back in block 4

24 March 2022

With the easing of corona measures in the Netherlands, Leiden University will also soon scale back its additional education and exam provisions. These changes will come into effect in block 4, i.e. from 4 April 2022 onwards.

What will change?

Education

  • Alternative forms of education for students in quarantine will be reduced further and will no longer be automatically available.
  • Study programmes may still choose to offer alternative forms of education in special circumstances, for example for international students who are unable to come to the Netherlands due to travel restrictions in their own country, or students for whom corona poses an increased health risk.
  • If you cannot attend classes due to corona-related health issues, quarantine or travel restrictions, please follow the procedures communicated to you by your study programme.

Exams

  • Leiden University will no longer automatically offer hybrid exams (simultaneously online and on-campus) and online exams. Instead, study programmes can choose whether they wish to conduct an exam online or on-campus.
  • Study programmes will no longer automatically offer additional on-campus exams for students who are unable to attend an exam due to coronavirus-related reasons.
  • If you cannot attend an exam due to corona-related health issues, quarantine or travel restrictions, please follow the procedures communicated to you by your study programme.

Note that if you missed an exam due to coronavirus-related reasons in block 3 and have already scheduled a replacement exam in block 4, this will still go ahead.

Information from your study programme

You will receive information on the schedule and format of your lectures and exams in block 4 from your study programme in the usual way.
