Study associations
A study association is a good way to combine study-related activities with pleasure. Every faculty has one or more study association.
Many study programmes have their own study association. For more information take a look under the faculty tab, or speak to the administration of your study programme.
Study associations are for students from a particular degree programme and focus on the academic aspects of student life. Students who are members of a Study Asociation support each other during their study period at Leiden, and organise course-related activities, such as lectures, seminars, field trips or excursions.

BASIS (Bachelor Association for Students of International Studies) is the study association for International Studies students. BASIS represents the student voice within The University of Leiden, and works to strengthen communication between the University and International Studies students.
Making your university experience the best it can be
The Association consists of one main board of six students that oversee ten different Committees. At the moment these are the Academic Committee , Career Committee, Community Outreach Committee, Culinary Committee, Dance Committee, Drama Committee, Music Committee, Social Committee, Sports Committee, and Travel Committee. We also help to operate BAISMAG, our own student-run and student-written magazine.
Throughout the year BASIS organises a variety of activities such as book deals, Model United Nations events, guest lecturers and much more. ButBASIS is not just there to help you out academically; with events such as ski trips, Halloween parties, ‘90s parties, jam sessions and salsa lessons,BASIS can help you form new friendships and overall make your university experience the best it can be.
